Lochranza is a small village and resort at the north end of the Isand of Arran on Loch Ranza. Loch Ranza means, loch of safe anchorage, and Robert the Bruce landed here from Ireland in 1306 at the beginning of his campaign for independence from England. Lochranza Castle dates from early medieval times, but was probably reconstructed in the 16th century.
